Abstract/Summary
Investigations were carried out to evaluate the anti-hyperglycemic effect and weight loss potential of varying concentrations of black tea and green tea (Camellia sinensis L.). The mice were gavaged with tea and sucrose-water in order to simulate the effect of commercially distributed tea drinks. The varying concentrations of black tea and green tea tested were 4% w/v, 8% w/v, and 16% w/v. The mice treated with sucrosewater and 8% w/v black tea exhibited the best anti-hyperglycemic effect. The mice treated with sucrose-water and 8% w/v black tea exhibited the most reduction of weight as well. According to statistical analysis, the results of the group of treated mice were significantly different compared to the rest, showing that black tea at 8% w/v demonstrated the highest effectivity compared to the other varying concentrations of green tea and black tea.
