Abstract/Summary

Azolla microphylla K. was grown in a medium treated with carbofuran at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 percent of the fresh weight of Azolla to determine its effects on the doubling time, Fresh and dry weight of Azolla and soil pH and nitrogen content. Results showed that increasing concentrations of carbofuran on Azolla significantly reduced fresh and dry weights, except for the 2 percent concentration which gave a biomass similar to that of the control. The doubling time increased with increasing concentration of carbofuran. The nitrogen content in the soil increased as compared to the initial soil N but the change in soil N was decreased as compared to that of the control. However at 12 percent carbofuran, there was a decreased N content as compared to that of the initial soil N.
