Abstract/Summary

This paper focuses on a study concerning car shades made from nipa leaves. The scope and limitations of this feasibility study are: 1) No information about car shades can be obtained. The car shade business is classified under the car accessory industry which has a broad scope as it likewise include car parts. This prompted the group to use ratios in identifying what portion of the car parts and accessory industry can be attributed to the car shade business. 2) Statistics used in connection with the feasibility study have yet to be updated. If necessary and possible, forecast analysis techniques are utilized to depict the most probable current situation. 3) Certain portions of this study are to be regarded as purely theoretical since our status as students restricted our resources to the materials that are available during our research. Certain facts presented in the study are based on the statistics determined in the previous number and interviews conducted with individuals knowledgeable about the particular areas of this study.

Market Study. Because of the increasing number of cars, the demand for car shades will most likely follow. Our survey shows that 94% of all car owners have interest in buying a car shade. There also exists a large gap between the current demand and supply making it more appealing to start the business. The survey also shows that a large portion of the demand for car shades is willing to try out a car shade made from nipa.

The pricing strategy that the company will employ is market penetration because this will give the company a competitive advantage. It will be launched in car shows and distributed to car accessory shops and Filipiniana sections of department stores.

Technical Study. In line with the concept of using nipa leaves for roofing purposes, our group conceptualized a product, particularly a car shade, that will also utilize nipa for a similar purpose which is to prevent heat. This product will be called Ethnical Shade which is patterned after the name of the company. Ethnical Shade will use nipa leaves as its main component. Our proposed product will be made up of six (6) weaved nipa sections which will have a dimension of 8 by 24 inches each. These nipa sections will be placed inside a nylon net which acts as a covering to connect the sections to each other and to keep them from moving from their positions. The nylon net is also expected to give additional strength to the car shade and to act as a support in preventing heat. The process of the Ethnical Shade will be divided into different departments wherein each of these departments will assume certain duties and responsibilities.

Our plant will be located in Bulacan, Bulacan since this is considered to be the most strategic location after we have considered where our materials will be sourced. Nipa, which is our primary material, is abundant in Bulacan as well as in the nearby provinces. There is also an existing structure that only in Bulacan that only needs renovation which we can use in manufacturing car shades. Another reason for considering Bulacan as or plant location is that is near Metro Manila, where we plan to distribute Ethnical Shade and where our target market is.

Other raw materials that we will be using such as the nylon net and leatherette will be coming from Divisoria and will be bought in large volumes since these materials do not rot even if kept for a long time. The clear varnish will be bought in Bulacan since there is a hardware store in the area that can supply this material to the company. Labor workforce will also be from Bulacan so that production time will not be wasted.

Management Study. Ethnical Shade Co. will be organized as a corporation which will primarily be concerned in manufacturing car shade. It will be a small-scale company which will only be composed of a Chief Executive Officer who will be in charge of the company, departmental managers for Finance, Production, Purchasing and Marketing/Sales who will assume certain responsibilities and duties, and 30 persons who will compose the workforce in manufacturing the product. Salaries of all administrative personnel are of the same amount except for the Chief Executive Officer who receives a higher pay. Their salaries will be given every month. Laborers will receive their wages weekly and these will depend on whether their job requires skill. Aside from these, employees are also given benefits. There are also company policies and procedures that have been adopted to govern employees with regards to their work.
