Abstract/Summary
The technological era today has brought out a new kind of addiction to the world: the gaming addiction. The researchers have been enthused by extreme cases of excessive video gaming and they aim to venture in understanding implications towards well-being and how gamers themselves perceive or interpret the gaming experience. Past literature has shown that individuals choose to play for a number of reasons whether it be to escape from reality or gain power. Also, literature states a number of implications on well-being, both ranging from negative and positive. However, studies in understanding how these gamers make sense of their gaming experience have been more of a rarity. The studies will fill-in theoretical gaps of self-determination and well-being in relation to video gaming. In relation to video gaming, the paper consists of two types of video gamers namely, the excessive video gamers and the leisure video gamers. From these two types of gamers, the research paper focused on how these gamers actively interpret their experience while playing and understand how it affects their well-being by means of qualitative method. Participants add to a total of ten having five respondents per type of gamer and each has gone to a face-to-face interviews.
