Abstract/Summary
The research will look into the experiences of natural disaster survivors specifically in the perspective of a mother and a father. The research aims to determine the different reactions of mother and fathers, how they coped and the difference of mothers and fathers in theses aspects. This research will make use of qualitative design that will be analyzed using content analysis. The interview was administered to a sample consisting of 6 mothers and fathers who are affected by natural disasters who currently reside in Malabon, Metro Manila of the Philippines. The result of the analysis reveals that there are in fact significant differences on how mothers and fathers react and cope with natural disasters. The results showed that there are different reactions participants experiences during and after the natural disaster. These reactions also include a number of specific subthemes that further show the differences of mothers and fathers. The results also include the different coping strategies that were analyzed in the general forms of spirituality, social support, physical activities and humor that participants utilize in times of crisis. The researchers would recommend future studies to make use of a larger sample size and cover broader region of affected populations. It would also be better if future researches can include a larger variety of natural disasters. It would also be interesting if future researches can focus more on the perspective of children on natural disasters. These recommendations would result to other unique ways of preparations that can be better applied to helping survivors deal with the aftermaths of natural disasters.
