Abstract/Summary
The study determined the perceived advantages and disadvantages of the trimestral system. The study also identified and described the symptoms of stress, the ways wherein the system was perceived to be stressful as well as the coping strategies to reduce stress. The ways in which the system was perceived as not stressful were investigated in the study. In addition to this, the study enumerated the reasons why the students and faculty were motivated or not motivated by the trimestral system. The motivational need/s of the respondents were also identified. The study made use of a descriptive research design and a non-probability sampling technique, specifically, purposive sampling in selecting the respondents for the study. 500 students from the upper class years (third year, fourth year, fifth year and sixth year) and thirty faculty from the College of Liberal Arts of De La Salle University-Manila were participants for the survey. Meanwhile, it was found out that faculty did not have enough time to explore subject matter. Respondents who did not perceive the trimestral system as stressful reasoned that they already got used to the system or that they were able to adjust to it. However, the majority o the respondents who felt stressed reasoned having heavy workload in a very
