Abstract/Summary

he PC-based multimedia - authoring subsystem allows the generation of video and still image sequenced through the use of a camera mounted on a gantry system. The gantry system is a stepper motor controlled platform that provides five degree of freedom. These include three translational (X-Y-Z) axes for lateral movement and two rotational (vertical and horizontal) axes for angular movement. The orientation and path of the camera can be controlled manually or automatically. Manual control utilizes a joystick, while graphics software is used for automation. The camera captures the subject in still-image or frame-by-frame format using point-to-point gantry motion and real-time video format using continuous gantry motion. The set of captured images is stored in a database that allows the user to create a sequence of post-capture video by specifying a virtual camera path. The authoring subsystem will automatically generate a set of web pages that will allow contents of the database to be accessed in a workstation or via the Internet.
