Abstract/Summary
The purpose of the Innovative Water Saving Device is to reduce the operator overload in using a water faucet by transferring the workload from the overburdened hands to a foot control device. This increases operator efficiency while at the same time conserves water, due to the improved control over water flow. The group came up with three sub problems, namely: (1) the relatively tedious process of turning on and off of the water faucet (2) costly alternative measures (other faucet designs) (3) unavailability of alternative designs and materials required for the production of such designs. The methodology in conducting the research study consists of six steps. These are : (1) identifying the need for the study (2) determining product ideas to satisfy the need (3) evaluating alternative designs (4) determining materials availability and performance (5) designing the product and (6) building the prototype. These were accomplished by conducting numerous surveys, research, brainstorming and data gathering. The final design was built and fabricated at a machine shop, and its performance tested by a random set of subjects, who provided feedback regarding the effectivity of the design.
