Abstract/Executive Summary

With the growing influence of social media on political awareness, there is limited understanding of how civic engagement shapes the voting preferences of Benilde Senior High School participants, particularly in the Philippine context. This study aims to explore how students engage with political content online and how this influences their decision-making for the 2028 Philippine National Elections. Using a qualitative narrative design, data were collected from selected Senior High School participants within an educational setting through their lived experiences and responses. The findings reveal that social media serves as a major source of political information, exposing students to both credible content and misinformation, while also increasing their participation in political discussions. Furthermore, exposure to election-related content, especially during election periods, enhances students’ awareness of candidates’ credentials and platforms, influencing their voting preferences. The study concludes that online civic engagement plays a significant role in shaping the political perspectives of young voters. It is recommended that schools strengthen media literacy programs to help students critically evaluate information and become more responsible and informed citizens in democratic processes.
