Abstract
Duty-free shops are generally conceptualized as a tourism facility service for the purpose of providing convenience goods for travelers/tourists. In the process, it may be presumed that duty-free shops operate in support of tourism promotion and development. In the Philippines, there are at present two distinct types of dutyfree shops: (1) those that are government - owned and operated through the Duty-Free Philippines (DFP), a duty-free merchandising system set up by the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) (an entity attached to the Department of Tourism) pursuant to Tourism Administrative Order No. 89-04 and generally located within international ports of entry; and (2) those which are privately-owned and located/to be located in the Subic and Clark economic zones.
