Abstract
The modern management education in Taiwan started in 1962, when National Chengchi University (NCCU) signed a cooperation contract with the University of Michigan of the United States. Young faculty members were selected and sent to UOM for MBA degrees with a carefully designed division of specialization. When these MBA's came back, they became the first group of teachers in the field of business administration both in NCCU and in the country. In 1964, the first MBA program in Taiwan was started, with most teachers in specialized fields coming from University of Michigan. Today in Taiwan, there are eleven (11) graduate institutes of business administration which offer MВА degrees andfive (5) doctoral programs. Total number of MBA students in schools was more than 1,000 in 1988, and total number of locally educated Ph.D's in management was about 80. There are fourteen (14) universities or colleges which have undergraduate departments in business administration. These departments admit about 1,300 undergraduate students each year.
