Abstract
Taiwan in the last 30 years has seen remarkable growth in its economy despite the limitations of geographic size and the scarcity of natural resources. Some facts. With a total landmass of 36,000 square kilometers, only 25% is arable. 64% is forested much of which is inaccessable due to terrain factors. The remaining 11% is of mixed use, primarily of a coastal nature. In terms of natural resources, the only notable deposits are of coal, some natural gas, marble, and dolomite.
