Submission Guidelines for Asia-Pacific Intellectual Property Management and Innovation Book Series
General Submission Rules
Submitted manuscripts cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic). Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to the Book Series, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another publication (electronic or print) and that he or she will not submit the material to another publication (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at Asia-Pacific IP Management and Innovation Book Series. If you have concerns about the submission terms for Asia-Pacific IP Management and Innovation Book Series, please contact the editors.
GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS
OBJECTIVESThe Asia-Pacific IP Management and Innovation Book Series is an interdisciplinary publication that publishes peer-reviewed books and manuscripts covering all aspects of intellectual property (IP) management and innovation, particularly in the Asia-Pacific context. The Book Series primarily publishes two types of books:
- Monographs, which are long articles (or effectively short books) detailing in-depth studies of a single, specialized subject or an aspect of it.
- Anthologies which comprise multiple chapters on a topic or theme, wherein each chapter is written by a different author or set of co-authors.
Full-length books may also be published as part of the Book Series. Authors interested in publishing full-length books are invited to contact the editors.
The Book Series is especially interested in manuscripts that contribute new knowledge on the strategic management of IP, innovation, creativity, and knowledge and technology transfer. Books may present novel theoretical frameworks, results and discussion of experimental analyses, and case studies. The Book Series may also publish manuscripts on topics that would be useful for the career development of professionals working in the field of IP and innovation. The Book Series may also publish manuscripts presenting technology showcases from industry and academia, and the latest news and trends on IP management and innovation in the Asia-Pacific.
SCOPE
Manuscripts submitted to the Book Series may take the following forms:
- Research. A report on any type of research conducted by the author/s, including: construction or testing of a theory, model, or framework; action research; empirical research; applied research; market research; and surveys and focus group discussions.
- Review. Critical overview (i.e., not merely a summary) of a concept, method, or phenomenon, including critical evaluation of prior research, presentation of a theoretical framework, and suggested avenues for further research.
- Case Study. Description of interventions or experiences, and key insights obtained from them.
- Policy Brief. Review or analyses of government, industrial, or academic policies, or proposals for new policy or policy amendments.
- Viewpoint. Opinion of author/s on a particular issue or topic, or descriptive or instructional manuscript about current trends and best practices.
The Book Series also welcomes critiques, short notes, or comments on previously published material. Rejoinders from the authors of these articles are also welcome. Manuscripts on topics that would be useful for the career development of professionals working in the field of IP management and innovation, technology showcases from industry and academia, and the latest news and trends on IP management and innovation in the Asia-Pacific may also be considered for publication. The Editors shall have the discretion to publish certain types of submissions.
While submissions can take the forms outlined above, accepted manuscripts will be published either as monographs or as chapters within anthologies, depending on their scope and length. The editors reserve the discretion to determine the appropriate format for publication.
PUBLICATION DETAILS
Books will primarily be published in electronic form. However, a limited number of printed copies will also be made available. The Editors will endeavor to publish electronic versions of books, particularly monographs and anthology chapters, immediately upon final acceptance of the Editorial Committee.
SUBMISSION OF INITIAL MANUSCRIPT
Authors are required to carefully read these Guidelines for Authors and ensure that the manuscript conforms to these guidelines. The authors may submit their manuscript through Animo Repository at https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/apjipmi/.
The Editorial Committee will invite two (2) expert reviewers from the relevant field to assess the submission. The review and the comments will be sent back to the author for revision. After which, the revised manuscript will be forwarded to the Editors-in-Chief or the original reviewers for final determination in the inclusion in the Book Series. Under this process, reviewers and authors are anonymous to each other.
In addition, manuscripts must be copy-edited for English fluency and clarity before submission for publication. Authors are strongly advised to employ the services of a professional editor to copy-edit the main text, list of references, tables, and figures. Manuscripts not conforming to the guidelines and referencing style of the Asia-Pacific Book Series of Intellectual Property Management and Innovation will be returned to the author for appropriate revision.
MONOGRAPH, ANTHOLOGY CHAPTER, OR FULL-LENGTH BOOK?
Manuscripts submitted to the Asia-Pacific Book Series will be published either as monographs or as chapters in an anthology, based on their scope, length, and subject matter.
MonographsManuscripts that provide an in-depth analysis of a specialized subject, present comprehensive research findings, or propose new theoretical frameworks are suitable for publication as a monograph. Typically, monographs are longer works (approximately 30,000-40,000 words) that explore a single topic in detail. They may stand alone as a self-contained book within the series.
Anthology ChaptersManuscripts that focus on a specific aspect of a broader theme or offer a concise contribution (e.g., a case study, policy brief, or research article) are more appropriate for inclusion as a chapter in an anthology.
Anthology chapters typically range between 5,000-10,000 words and contribute to a broader thematic collection of works.
The decision to publish a manuscript as a monograph or anthology chapter is made during the review process, based on the manuscript’s scope, depth, and alignment with ongoing thematic projects within the Book Series. Authors may indicate their preference upon submission, but the final decision rests with the Editors-in-Chief.
Full-length books may also be published as part of the Book Series. Authors interested in publishing full-length books are invited to contact the editors.
