Who Can Submit?
Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication in Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance provided he or she owns the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. Authors are the initial owners of the copyrights to their works (an exception in the non-academic world to this might exist if the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer copyright to their employer).
Submission and Publication Schedule
Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance accepts articles on a rolling basis, so an author can submit anytime. All submissions, however, will be screened by the editorial board and undergo double-blind review (except for review articles), which will take a considerable turn-around time. Once the article receives an acceptance decision from the reviewers, and approved for publication by the editors, it will be queued on a first-come, first served basis, according to the publication schedules of two regular issues (April and October) while undergoing the production process of copyediting and proofreading. There are no submission, processing, and publication fees.

There are no submission, processing, and publication fees for articles published in Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance.
General Submission Rules
Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance welcomes the following article types for publication:
- Regular articles: original and unpublished critical essays on literary, cultural and performance texts and scholarship in Asia, which range from 6,000 to 9,000 words (inclusive of abstract, notes and work cited section);
- Perspectives articles: practice-based papers on writing and performance and annotated interviews and forum of Asian artists and scholars, which range from 3,000 to 6,000 words (inclusive of abstract, notes and work cited section); and
- Review articles: reviews of scholarly monographs, and creative, cultural and performance texts in Asia, which range from 1,000 to 2,500 words (inclusive of publication details and work cited section).Submitted articles should not be previously published or under consideration for another journal or publication..
The journal accepts articles in Filipino, so long as they are accompanied with a title, abstract and keywords translated in English for Regular and Perspectives articles, and a title translated in English for Review articles.
Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic). Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that he or she will not submit the material to another journal (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance.
Articles should be submitted through the Submit Article portal. The corresponding author will need to sign up and create an account in the journal's website to submit an article.
All articles should follow the most recent style guide from Modern Language Association (MLA) , with the work cited section at the end of the document.
Submissions should be in MS Word document. Before submitting, make sure to the title page—containing the title of the article, full name of the author/s, institutional affiliation/s, email address of corresponding author, abstract (for Regular and Perspectives articles only), which is comprised of 150-250 words with at least four key words, and the English translation of the above entries if the manuscript is in Filipino, together with a short bionote/s of author/s around 50-100 words—is available and in a separate file. The main manuscript that would be uploaded in the submission portal should be the anonymized manuscript containing only the title and the body of the article, tables and figures on the intended pages/sections in the manuscript and notes and work cited sections. Please ensure that manuscript does not contain any identifying marks of the author/s to maintain the integrity of the blind review process.
Authors are responsible for securing permission for including in the article any copyrighted material requiring permission.

Although bepress can provide limited technical support, it is ultimately the responsibility of the author to produce an electronic version of the article as a high-quality PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format) file, or a Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or RTF file that can be converted to a PDF file.
It is understood that the current state of technology of Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) is such that there are no, and can be no, guarantees that documents in PDF will work perfectly with all possible hardware and software configurations that readers may have.
Review Process
Editors evaluate the submitted article’s originality and quality before it undergoes the reviewer selection process. Following a double-blind peer review process, articles are then assessed by two referees who are known experts in the field, who would decide the article’s suitability for publication in Akda. After a period of few weeks to a few months, the author/s will receive the reviewer reports. Rejected articles will not be considered for publication while accepted articles would be queued for publication. For articles with a revise and resubmit decision, authors will revise the article and respond to the comments of the reviewers until the article is deemed fit for publication by reviewers and editors. Accepted articles will proceed to copyediting and proofreading in the production stage.
Open Access Policy
Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance provides open access to all of its content towards the end of making research available to the public and increased visibility and accessibility of our authors’ works.For more information about open access and copyright policies, please refer to Open Access Statement and Copyright and Licensing Terms page.
Archiving Policy
Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance is hosted by Animo Repository, and all articles are archived and stored in the repository. Animo Repository is a digital repository of scholarly and creative works of the faculty, students, and researchers of the De La Salle University, including journals managed by academic units and centers of the University. It is administered by the De La Salle University Libraries with support from individual colleges and units.
Authors, retaining full copyright of their work, according to our Open Access Statement and Copyright and Licensing Terms page, may archive their work through the following:
General Terms and Conditions of Use
Users of the Animo Repository website and/or software agree not to misuse the Animo Repository service or software in any way.
The failure of Animo Repository to exercise or enforce any right or provision in the policies or the Submission Agreement does not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
