Abstract
In this paper, we present a new model that predicts forest fire spreading based on two-dimensional square cellular automata (2DS-CAs). The model presented is an extension of the models developed by [6] and [9], which are basically based on the transfer of fractional burned area. The main contribution of this paper is the development of a local transition function that is based on a true circular fire spread model for a 2DS-CA topology. Initial results of the model based on homogeneous and heterogeneous environments are also presented.
