Abstract
This study examined how spirituality and relatedness, as well as gender, influence prosocial behavior. A questionnaire that measured these variables was administered to 273 college students from private and state universities. Regression analysis revealed that both spirituality and relatedness influence prosocial behavior, regardless of gender. Further analysis showed that relatedness moderated the relationship between spirituality and prosocial behavior. Thus, whether male or female, adolescents who are spiritual tend to perform prosocial acts for the welfare of others, especially if they have a strong sense of connection with others. These findings are discussed in the light of positive youth development.
