Abstract

© 2019 IEEE. Most plastic packaging is used only once before they are thrown away often ending up polluting the environment. This study explores the factors to consider in designing plastic packaging to change the disposal behavior of the consumers, driving them to reuse plastic packaging. The factors considered in this study are those related to the attributes of plastic packaging, instead of factors related to the consumers as in the previous studies. Structural Equation Modelling was used to determine the significant factors that can predict the reuse behavior of consumers. Factors significant to reusing include usability, information, convenience, cost, and the future usefulness of the packaging. The top significant factors are commonly related to the simplification of the task. The findings of this study imply that plastic packaging should be designed in way that will make reusing as simple as throwing a trash away.
