Abstract

This article discusses materials-based collaboration between a language· teacher and a content specialist in an integrated instruction. As an innovative approach to mat􀀰rials development, cross-disciplinary articulation benefits instructional planning and teaching and fosters a good working relationship between content area and language teachers. The article shows how collaboration was applied to a language class in a secondary school. It also introduces a theoretical framework that provides a basis for the application of collaboration and steps taken for needs analysis, the rewards of the interconnection, and the practical considerations that the approach necessitates. At the heart of the innovative approach IS a protocol for effective Collaboration. This is the blueprint of materials development that guides teachers involved in the design of effective language teaching materials.
