Abstract
n this paper, I intend to look at the cinematic portrayals of male-bodied queerness in gay-themed films from the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia. All three contexts have a similar long history of gender-bending and gender-crossing traditions, which still exist in contemporary forms today: the bakla from the Philippines, the kathoey of Thailand, and the waria of Indonesia.
