Abstract

This essay is a critique of the concept of "interfaith dialogue." It sets forth an analysis of the complex term, and concludes that the concept entails a deep conceptual contradiction. This contradiction can be stated as follows: If there can be an interfaith dialogue, then persons are not present in that dialogue, or if there are persons in that dialogue, then that dialogue is not an interfaith dialogue. The main claim of this essay, albeit stated negatively, is that any dialogue should be a dialogue between persons, and as· such, interfaith dialogue is a contradiction of terms.
