Abstract

During a museum tour, visitors may tend to grow uninterested to the displays of the museum because of the lack of interaction between the art exhibitions in the galleries and the visitors. Although a lot of researches have been conducted in order to improve the experiences of the visitors inside the museum, most of them still hold limitations (e.g., static/constant information for all types of users) that are essential in increasing the interest of the visitors. Aside from that, as of today, there are no applications for museum guides available that can be deployed in a Philippine-based museum.

This paper presents an adaptive personalized museum guide deployed on a mobile device for the National Museum of the Philippines. This mobile museum guide, called MyMuseum, recommends art exhibits to its users based on his preferences and item histories. Aside form these capabilities, MyMuseum also provides an interactive map of the museum, the art exhibits' location and additional description that not only increase the interactivity of the tour but also provides informative experience for its users. This is in comparison to those not well versed in the museum art exhibits as well as those who intend to tour without external aide.

MyMuseum was evaluated by 10 users by touring the National Art Gallery. The evaluators were asked to rate the art exhibits recommended by MyMuseum and answer user acceptance test questionnaires. Results of the evaluation show that more than half of the evaluators agreed with the recommendations provided by MyMuseum, and that 100% of them were satisfied with the number of recommendations given. Most importantly, 63.33% of the evaluators found MyMuseum very useful in touring the said museum
