Abstract
We investigate magnetic properties of Fe nanoislands on Cu(111) in the relaxed structure within the density functional theory. We observe that the nanoislands exhibit the ferromagnetic properties with large magnetic moment. We find that the change in the magnetic moment of each Fe atom is induced by deposition on Cu(111) and structure relaxation of Fe nanoislands. Moreover, we examine the stability of ferromagnetic states of Fe nanoislands by performing the total energy calculations. ©2005 The Physical Society of Japan.
