Abstract
This paper presents the numerical simulation and analysis of the torque performance of a vertical hydrokinetic kinetic turbine and the flow of fluid in a prototype river flow simulator tank set up. An existing prototype river flow tank was modelled and different turbine location in the tank was simulated to various depth, distance and water velocity to numerically analyze the turbine torque performance. Water at standard temperature 28°C, steady state with K-epsilon turbulence model was used in the ANSYS CFX 16.0 for the numerical simulation. Stream lines, contour, pressure and water velocity of the prototype was observed and evaluated. The results were compare to actual tank experimental set up. This paper compare the simulated result to the actual experimental result was gather in the previous study in the prototype tank set up. © 2018 IEEE.
