Abstract

Consumerism pertains to the rapid growth in demand of the citizen's needs due to the continuous increase of population. In consumerism, a large-scale production is done to cope up with people's needs. Currently, automated machines are used to replace human operators in several factories to lessen the mechanical work load of employees. In supermarkets, there is a huge margin of inaccuracy that can be attributed to human error. This includes the possibility of incorrect price, loss of goods and unreliable sorting of goods. Let's also take into account the amount of manpower and labor that goes into the process. The research group's project is an insight into implementing an automated checkout counter and bagging system to reduce the margin of error. The project targets to present a more efficient checkout system in supermarkets by decreasing the amount of manpower. Information on how the automated bagging and checkout counter is built and how it works is presented. © 2017 IEEE.
