Abstract
This study investigated the fundamental principles behind Lesson Study, and how it can be applied in local Philippine setting. Data from videotaped recordings, answers to the questionnaires, field notes, and students’ works were utilized to achieve the objectives of this research. Three emergent themes were elevated from this investigation: collaboration as a crucial and complicated feature of Lesson Study; creation of challenging and appropriate tasks and activities in implementing relevant and engaging lesson; and manifestation of self-regulated learning and mathematical proficiency. The culmination of this research proved to provide the impetus for integrating essential elements of Lesson Study in teaching of mathematics and served as manifold pursuits that will require all stakeholders to engage in timely, relevant and purposeful discussions and meetings for the ultimate goal of student achievement and learning. © 2017 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.
