Validation of the flourishing sclae (FS) to Filipino Gen-Z adults

Abstract

Flourishing is characterized among individuals with high levels of emotional, social and psychological well-being. It is also related to positive outcomes for physical and mental health. Flourishing scale (FS) is the most common scale in measuring this phenomenon. Though the scale has previously established its psychometric properties worldwide, the author found no record of its psychometric evaluation in the country. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the psychometric properties of the existing 8-item Flourishing Scale (FS) to the Filipino College Students who are under Generation Z (N =452) using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), 65.3% females and 34.7% males, ages 18-24 years old, M= 20.42; SD 2.139. CFA yielded a strong goodness-of-fit indices indicating that the tool has strong psychometric properties; X2 2069.747, df=28 p < .001, CFI=.983, TLI=.974, GFI=.997, RMSEA=.065 (CI lower .045 and CI upper 0.86), SRMR=.023, with all factor loadings greater than 0.5 and thus statistically significant. The results of the reliability test confirmed that the values of the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient at 0.915 showed that the scale has excellent reliability. Therefore, the Flourishing Scale (FS) demonstrated excellent validity and reliability among a sample of Filipino College students who are Gen Z adults.
