Abstract

The growing contribution of creative workers to the Philippine national economy has had significant recognition over the past years. However, improvements still have to be made in terms of caring for the creative class, providing work environments that foster creativity while protecting their general welfare. This study examines the Filipino creative workforce’s general work circumstances and experiences, featuring a mainly quantitative survey answered by 183 creative workers across several regions in the country. The creative workforce’s needs were analyzed according to the following dimensions: employment and income security; training and education; and benefits and protection. The results of this quantitative study may be used by government agencies and policy makers, creative industries educators, and creative-based organizations, to (1) provide recommendations to enhance public policies and programs to improve the work environment and conditions of the cultural workers and artists; and (2) develop coordination mechanisms of the government agencies involved in the creative industries to strengthen support for the creative workforce.
