Abstract
When John Baptist de la Salle first became involved in the charity schools for poor boys in the France of his day, like most of his contemporaries, he had a very poor opinion of the men teaching in these institutions. But in time he was joined by some young men who wished to devote their lives to this apostolate. He worked to help them to develop a high opinion of the work they were doing for God by teaching poor boys and to live up to this ideal.
