Abstract

Often a biographer or historian tells his readers as much about his times and himself as he does about the subject of his work. This seems to be true for La Salle's "Pioneer Biographers," who knew him personally and wrote within some 25 years of his death. However, for a perceptive reader they also provide much interesting and valuable information about La Salle as an educational innovator -- the thing which has earned him an important place in the history of western education.
