Abstract
This study applied the theory of planned behavior to explore the factors that influence an individual to engage in pro-environmental behavior. The researchers hypothesized that 1) the relationship between biospheric values and pro-environmental behavior is mediated by environmental intentions, and 2) it was hypothesized that this effect is moderated by the additional variable of connectedness to nature. Data were gathered from surveys conducted in various areas in the Philippines with a total of 149 adult respondents. This study used multiple regression and conditional process analysis. It was found that biospheric values had an indirect relationship with pro-environmental behavior through the mediating role of environmental intentions. The second hypothesis was not supported as connectedness to nature was not found to moderate the effect of intentions on the biospheric values and behavior relationship. Implications of this study place biospheric values as a jumping point for people to act environmentally conscious.
