Abstract
Carbon dioxide (COz) has been attributed as the main cause of climate change. One mitigating approach is by Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS): CO2 is captured from large point sources and stored instead of released. Advanced Weathering of Limestone or AWL is an economical approach to CCS. CO, is reacted with limestone and water to transform to bicarbonate ions. This research focused on the design and fabrication of a two-stage AWL reactor. with the process parameters optimized using response surface methodology. Results show that limestones less than 0.45mm size and water superficial velocity less than 9.75 cm/min yield the maximum limestone dissolution. indicating the region of highest CO, capture. This research may be used as an investment analysis tool if CCS is opted as an initiative in climate change mitigation.
