Abstract
Cancer is considered as one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Various approaches in prevention, management and treatment of cancer are being implemented nowadays but most of which are very costly for an average Filipino. Thus, there is a thrust towards the natural/herbal approach to cancer management. This study aims to determine if the aqueous crude extract of C. microcarpa B. exhibits antitumor activity against HT29 human colon adenocarcinoma xenografted in immunosuppressed mice. Specific objectives include the comparison of the antitumor activity of varying concentrations of calamansi crude extracts and later anayze the components that may have antitumor activity. To accomplish the objectives, HT29 human colon adenocarcinoma cells will be inoculated or xenografted on cyclosporine-induced immunosuppressed mice. The dorsal skin will be investigated. Controls are set and once cancer cells became viable, mice will be treated with different doses of lyophilized extracts of calamansi. Histopathological analysis and specific measurements of the tumors will be done. Statistical analysis to determine the significance in tumor volume reduction between the treatment groups will be performed using Student's t-test through SPSS with confidence level set at 95%.
