Abstract
The analysis of spoken discourse of selected urban poor women is an ethnographic study that I conducted in Manila, Philippines. The main objective of the research is to analyze the informal talk of urban poor women in the natural setting using the three-dimensional framework on Critical Discourse Analysis (Fairclough 1995). The triadic process of community integration, observation, and documentation or TRIOD was designed to facilitate the immersion in the target community and captured the natural conversations of urban poor women. After four week of fieldwork, seven transcripts were gathered and used as the basis for analysis. Hence, the communication strategies, language functions, discourse identities and social relevance of the topics in the spoken discourse of urban poor women will be presented in this paper and I hope it will trigger a discourse-oriented action toward social change/
