Abstract
This study investigated the existing payment information system of Philippine buses. The following are areas for improvement: manual processes are tedious, physical transfer of payment reaches many hands, banks are not directly part of the information system, file storage is not leveraged for optimal use, data redundancy and difficulty in payment validation. The Swimlane Process Analysis was used in order to identify possible improvements on the manual process. Based on a new Data Flow Diagram (DFD), a new Payment Information System was designed starting from sales capturing up to posting of payments to the financial records. The proposed system incorporates several high-tech fare payment schemes such as computer controlled fare detection, credit card payment, prepaid card payment and even mobile payment. The benefits are streamlined manual process, an effective and efficient payment information system.
