Abstract
Risk management has become a common practice of construction management to mitigate risk impacts throughout the lifecycle of project. With the advancement of information and communication technology (ICT), it is possible to integrated current technologies such as building information modeling (BIM) to risk management. However, the systematic application of BIM for managing risk in construction projects is still very limited. This paper introduces a systematic framework to implement BIM for construction risk management by illustrating through design-build (DB) projects. The framework begins with examining DB project risks and BIM uses, the relations of which are presented in the form of matrix. The proposed guideline covers three main aspects of risk management: risk identification, risk response, and risk monitoring. The proposed framework was verified by applying it in three AEC companies in the Philippines.
