Abstract
Seven physio-edpahic factors presumed to be determining the mosaic spread of the plant communities on Mt. Halcon summit zone were investigated. Data were obtained from 94 quadrats laid from the actual peak (2582 m asl) downslope to the limit of the continuous closed canopy forest at +/-1,950 m asl. Both indirect and direct gradient analyses indicated that altitude, soil depth and temperature cause greater variation on the distribution of the observed plant community types on Mr. Halcon summit zone. All community types thrive on oligotrophic soil underlain by a hardpan of slow weathering white quartz and mica schist.
