Abstract

The forest over limestone in Malabrigo (Lobo) and Hugom (San Juan) Batangas was surveyed using the belt transect method to describe the species composition, diversity, and other biological characteristics of the habitat of an endangered tree species, Techtona philippinensis Benth. & Hook.f. The survey in Malabrigo showed that in a 4000m2 area, there were about 202 trees identified into 16 species and 14 families while in Hugom, there were 215 trees identified into 32 species and 22 families. The dominant species in both sites were Tectona philippinensis Benth, & Hook.f. and Terminalia polyantha Presi. The Shannons's species diversity index was also found to be significantly higher in Hugom than in Malabrigo.
