Abstract

At present, Baguio City is beset with environmental problems that could not simply be ignored. Alarmingly, the city's forest reserves are steadily depleting or degraded, ambient air pollution is one growing concern, and the city's dilemma on waste management has yet to be resolved. These problems, however, could have been prevented, if not for indiscriminate and irresponsible human activity.
In a sense, much of the environmental disasters encountered can be ascribed to the attitudes people have toward their environment. Thus, the influence of a certain standpoint becomes apparent once people follow up their attitude with actual behavior. For instance, high concern about the environment ould have positive impact as it may account for environment-friendly behaviors (or vice versa).
Grounded on this understanding, this paper intends to examine how environmental-related problems become a function of human attitude and behavior. It is believed that the understanding of such process leads to the formulation of effective techniques to encourage the people of Baguio to redefine their role in the protection of the city. In effect, the change in attitude will motivate them to take responsibility in the management, conservation, and preservation of Baguio's limited resources.
