Stella Valdez and Vim Nadera, Filipino Department faculty members, won in the essay writing division of the Gawad Collantes. Valdez won 2nd place for "Isang Postkolonyal na Pagbasa kina Andres Bonifacio at Jose Rizal sa Himagsikan ng 1898: Mga Nawawalang Teksto, Mga Pahiwatig sa Konteksto". Nadera copped 3rd place for "Si Francisco Del Castillo at ang Misteryo sa Capiz".
