Members of the Literature Department faculty won 3 major prizes in the 1986 Don Carlos Palanca Annual Awards for Literature. Rogelio Mangahas won first prize in the Pilipino Essay category, Bienvenido M. Noriega, Jr. won first prize in the Pilipino Three-Act Play category and Mig Alvarez Enriques won third prize in the English Three-Act Play category.
