Description

The De La Salle University – Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Health Technologies (DLSU-IBEHT) serves as the national institute for R&D, training, and knowledge and technology transfer in the field of biomedical engineering and health technologies in the Philippines and its implementing Project CAPACITÀ-Capacity Building for Researchers, Inventors, Technology Transfer Personnel in Commercializing Biomedical Devices and Health Technologies. It aims to establish a commercialization hub for biomedical devices, hospital equipment, and health technologies research in the Philippines.

CAPACITÀLK is one of the capacity training activities of Project CAPACITÀ. It is a series of webinars that aims to create an avenue for sharing experiences and insights to inspire upcoming and current faculty- and student-researchers and technology transfer professionals to level up their research and development outputs into sustainable and scalable solutions that would create a greater societal impact.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Jose Maria A. Ochave, LLM, is a member of the Executive Committee and Senior Vice President of Unilab, Inc., the largest pharmaceutical company in Southeast Asia. In Unilab, he heads the Business Development Group, Legal Services, and Regulatory Affairs, among others. He is also the President of RiteMed Philippines, Inc., Pharex Healthcare Corporation, and Synnovate Pharma Corporation. Mr. Ochave is a chemical engineer and lawyer. He obtained his B.S. Chemical Engineering degree under a DOST scholarship from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. He ranked 7th in the 1986 Board Examination. After graduation, he joined Procter & Gamble Philippines, Inc. as industrial engineering manager and subsequently sulfonation plant manager. He left P&G in 1988 to enter the U. P. College of Law, where he graduated salutatorian and later ranked 11th in the 1992 Bar examinations. In 1995, he obtained his Master of Laws degree at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor under a Clyde Dewitt fellowship. He was a partner in a law firm before joining Unilab in 1999. He is a frequent lecturer locally and internationally on licensing, pharmaceutical patents, biosafety, and business model innovations.
