Abstract (English)

Recycled PET (rPET) bottle-based materials are gaining popularity worldwide and are being utilized in various sustainable products such as furniture and fashion apparel. However, the adoption of rPET apparel remains largely unexplored in the Philippines. This study aims to examine the behavioral consumption patterns of Filipino Generation Y and Z consumers, focusing on the key factors influencing their purchase intention toward rPET bottle-based apparel in Metro Manila. Additionally, it investigates the moderating effects of generational differences on these influencing factors. A quantitative research approach was employed, gathering responses from 421 valid participants through a structured questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using Descriptive Analysis, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), and Multigroup Analysis in SEM via RStudio. The findings reveal that perceived quality, product image, and perceived relative price significantly influence consumers’ purchase intention toward rPET bottle-based shirts in Metro Manila. Furthermore, generational differences were found to moderate the relationship between perceived safety and purchase intention, with notable variations between Generation Z (Zoomers) and Generation Y (Millennials). From a business perspective, these insights provide valuable guidance for the Philippine fashion industry, local fashion brands, marketing specialists, and entrepreneurs in developing effective strategies to penetrate the rPET apparel market and enhance consumer adoption. Future research may explore additional factors influencing purchase intention and expand the study scope to other generational cohorts and regions in the Philippines to gain broader insights into consumer preferences.
