Abstract (English)
In an increasingly complex and secularized world, priests and consecrated persons are called to bear witness to God through spiritual depth, moral integrity, prophetic commitment, and faithful proclamation of the Word of God. For Pauline priests, holistic development is a lifelong process. Midlife transition represents a particularly significant period of transformation that calls for continued personal growth, pastoral fruitfulness, and the development of generativity. This qualitative study, employing Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), explored the essence of the lived experiences of middle-aged Pauline priests. Face-to-face and online interviews were conducted with ten middle-aged Pauline priests in India, whose mean age was 46.7 years. Analysis of the data revealed three overarching domains of experience—Areas for Enhancement, Areas for Strengthening, and Areas for Facilitation—which provide a framework for understanding and enriching this stage of life. The findings highlight the guiding role of the Pauline charism in helping priests understand their vocation and discover deeper meaning and purpose. They also underscore the importance of ongoing formation and support in fostering spiritual growth and sustaining commitment to God's call. These insights informed the development of a psycho-spiritual ongoing formation program integrating the PERMA model and Pauline spirituality. Centered on Jesus Master, the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and inspired by the spirituality of Galatians 2:20, the program seeks to promote psycho-spiritual flourishing, vocational renewal, and generativity among middle-aged Pauline priests. In addition, the study offers recommendations for ongoing formation and renewal programs, as well as initiatives that foster psycho-spiritual integration among priests, seminarians, and religious, in light of the study's findings.
