Abstract/Summary
This multi-case qualitative research study analyzed how supply chain management capability influences the internationalization performance of the four selected PhilExport member companies. This case study on the four selected members of PhilExport, anchored on the Resource Based View and Dynamics Capabilities Theory, employed the Critical Realism philosophy to explain the role of organizational capabilities and dynamic capabilities in continuously developing the Philippine SMEs’ Supply Chain Management capability to sustain their competitive position in their respective supply chains. Gleaned from the CR perspective, findings revealed five valuable, rare, inimitable and non-substitutable (or VIRN, the central tenet of RBV) supply chain management capabilities; customer relationships management, supplier relationships management, business excellence, business continuity planning and management, and top management involvement. This study concludes that the five supply chain management capabilities, influenced by the dynamic capabilities mechanism of sensing, seizing, transformation/reconfiguration, and the institutional networks and supportive government policies and regulations conditions, sustain the internationalization performance of the four selected PhilExport-member companies measured in terms of growth, profitability, number of countries exporting to and number of customers served. This multi-case qualitative study further concludes that the top management, who are also owners of the four case companies, gradually developed and established the supply chain management capability of the four case companies.
