Abstract (English)

The spatial distribution of the healthcare establishments within Manila City, Philippines was collected, viewed and analyzed from the perspective of complex systems. Through the data collected with k nearest neighbors and Voronoi diagrams, the spatial distribution of the healthcare establishments was analyzed to determine if it manifests a power law emergence. Based on the results, the 75 healthcare establishments in Manila City displayed emergent behavior and follows a trend similar to the economic establishments. Two major clustering was also identified within the city of Manila. There are numerous approaches and perspectives that can be taken in future studies. Some aspects that can be considered are: (i) covering other cities or the whole Metro Manila, (ii) distinguishing the healthcare establishments by the level and type of service they provide, and (iii) studying the effects of other urban element to the spatial arrangement of healthcare establishments.
