Abstract (English)

Defined by excessive cellular growth and metastasis, cancer remains to be a global health challenge. In the Philippines, lung cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality. This study investigates the combined effects of Brassica oleracea L. var. Capitata f. rubra or Red Cabbage and sonodynamic therapy (SDT) on H69PR lung cancer cell lines. Known for its anthocyanins and other bioactive compounds with potential anticancer properties, the cytotoxicity of red cabbage extract was evaluated along with SDT for its effects in H69PR lung cancer cell lines. To obtain the results, the IC50 values and the combined treatment with ultrasound were done. For the results of the treatment with ultrasound, twenty (20) treatment groups were tested on the H69PR cancer cell lines. Under the dose, sonicated tests the following frequencies were used, 1 MHz, 2, MHz, and 4 MHz, and each having duration exposures of 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 15 minutes. The statistical analysis showed that the red cabbage extract is less effective in inhibiting the growth of the H69PR lung cancer cell line and among the treatments done, 4 MHz + 5 mins performed better than the rest.
