Abstract/Summary
Lokal Siargao Inc. is a non-governmental organization that empowers the local community of Siargao through impactful and sustainable projects. The organization’s goal is to increase access to environmentally sound tourism alternatives, whilst cultivating sustainable livelihood opportunities for communities all over the island. A WOT-SUG analysis was carried out to identify the company’s main problem: the accumulated 22.73% difference between projected and actual harvest yields. To address this, a Why-Why diagram was used to arrive at the following root causes: the excessive number of partner farmers, the lack of a proper record-keeping system, the quantities of unaccounted harvested crops, and the inconsistent lead time from the seed suppliers. The Kepner-Tregoe decision analysis tool was used to rate the best plan for Lokal. Thus arriving at the final solution design: the implementation of the AGRIVI software, farmland and grid shifting system, quality control standards, and recycled seed containers. The organization would incur an initial investment cost of Php 23,998.00 and a monthly cost of Php 4,551.88 for the implementation of the final solution. The company is also set to gain an annual total net benefit of Php 78,929.96. Furthermore, a Gantt Chart was used to distribute the implementation of alternatives throughout the 3 months. AGRIVI software, quality control standards, and reusing of storage containers will take effect in the first 2 weeks of implementation. While the implementation of the farmland and grid shifting system will take place after. It is also evident in the Net Present Value (NPV) computation every month that the implementation will yield to positive NPV. This means that the alternative systems that are planned to implement will exceed the cost it has incurred.
