Abstract/Summary

This thesis examines the guerrilla units which operated in Cagayan Province during the Second World War, from 1942 to 1945. It explores how these groups carried out their resistance against the Japanese. It analyzes the operations of the guerrillas in Cagayan. Through the Hermeneutika ng Pakikipagtunggali, or the act of deepening one’s understanding of words based on their context, it scrutinizes the reasons why these guerrillas were formed, their goals, and the operations they performed.

The research elucidates the formation of the four guerrilla units operating in Cagayan and their activities against the Japanese. The operation of the local government of the province and radio communication, early into the war, with Quezon and MacArthur are some of the accomplishments of the Cagayan Apayao Force/Cagayan Guerrilla Force. The 11th Infantry, USAFIP NL, also participated in decisive battles during the Liberation of Cagayan, and the liberation of North Luzon as well as the battle that led to the eventual surrender of General Yamashita. This study also sheds light on the lesser-known guerrillas and their contributions to the war effort.
