Abstract/Summary

This hydroelectric generation monitoring system has utilized GSM and a web application to implement a remote monitoring system. The main objective of this thesis is to produce a prototype that would be beneficial to the consumers of pico-hydroelectric power generation systems in rural areas and would give convenience to the system’s administrators and maintenance personnel who are remotely located from the turbine site, by taking advantage of the area’s cellular network availability. In this paper, a GSM module was connected to an Arduino to retrieve data from the site. The monitoring system’s data logs are then displayed to have the information accessible miles away from the hydroelectric power generation’s site. The implementation of this remote monitoring system has contributed to cost-efficiency by dropping the unnecessary maintenance visits and reducing the costly travel back and forth.
