Abstract/Summary

From a global standpoint, a consortium of businesses and organizations face an economic and operational crisis like nothing before due to the effects brought by the pandemic (Rai et al, 2020, EideBaily, 2022). The Asian Development Bank (2020) recorded a sharp decline in economic growth from 5.1% in 2019 to a negative 0.4% in 2020. Along with sales and trade decreasing due to limited human operations of only 50% capacity during quarantine measures by the Philippine health and safety protocols (The World Bank 2020). The study aims to assess the influence of strategic human resource practices and economic sustainability on the organizational resilience of Saint Mary’s Angels College of Pampanga during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The study utilized a mixed-method approach. A total sample size of 70 was collected and tested using a 0.05 significance level. The results show that strategic human resource practices consisting of training, compensation, performance appraisal, staffing, and participation have a significant effect on organizational resilience with a p-value of less than 0.05 and a regression coefficient ranging from 0.505 to 0.863. Similarly, results show that economic sustainability has a significant effect on organizational resilience with a p-value of less than 0.05 and a regression coefficient of 0.89. As for a collective variable, the findings regarding the combination of strategic human resource management practices with economic sustainability showed a positive effect on organizational resilience with a p-value of less than 0.05 and a regression coefficient of 1.01. Meanwhile, the key informant interview found that the institution encourages its employees to collaborate and participate in the organization’s school affairs; invests in good quality materials; fosters a sustainable learning environment for the students and staff; and educates students about the importance of sustainability and environmental conservation.
